The Everglades
-- Try this on the way to Key West

If you want to make the drive to Key West more exciting, then as you come down through Florida, go down the Gulf side on I-75. Exit just before entering the tollway (known as Alligator Alley) at rt. 951. Its the exit for Marco Island. Take that south a few miles to US41, and drive across the Everglades on US41.

It is much more scenic and fun than the interstate. You may even see alligators sunning themselves along the ditches by the road. And there is even a US Post Office that is only about 8 feet by 8 feet (at Ochopee I think). Its fun to stop and take pictures of it! There are also a number of places that will take you on air boat or swamp buggy rides, and one or two indian reservations to see. There are also numerous places to stop with scenic looks, picnic areas, and rest rooms. The Everglades is a good day trip itself.
